Survey says …Filed Under: General Topics, money
Part 1 of 5
I asked the people on my list what they have and don’t have working for them and
According to the survey questions and your answers in the order of most important to least,
Here is what you have actively working for you …
A need to make fast money (that’s how most of us got here, unfortunately) 69.4%
A hosting account (good for you) does your c-panel terrify you too? Mine does ! 63.3%
A domain name. It’s good that you have one, how you picked it is important too.
(did you pick a niche that’s profitable and mention it in the domain?) 55.1% Tied for 3rd
A way to receive money on a website,
(good job, if you haven’t check out www.paypal.com or www.paydotcom.com). 51.1%
An affiliate product that you’re promoting (I hope you love it, and it’s in a hot market too) and an idea that needs development were also tied for 4th place at 42.9%
A mentor was next (I believe this is very important, maybe most of all), 40.8%
38% to 34% of you said that having “a lousy job you’d like to quit” was next, followed by “an active web page”, and then came “a market or niche that you’re passionate about”.
The next largest group of answers said that you had numerous other tools and products and concepts to work with, but went on to say that they aren’t helping you make any money.
Last on the list of things you have to work with was your own product or e-book.
Your story sounds a lot like mine.
Looking back and realizing my lack of tech skills, I should have started as an affiliate for someone else’s product that I could believe in. Or I should have at least started a blog of some sort to minimize the tech headache of creating my own site from scratch.
I think that would have been smarter and I would have made money sooner too.
The only thing is … I kept hearing that the money is in the list. I even forgot to ask in the survey, … how many of you have an auto responder and a subscriber list ?
Here’s what we have in common and how I know we can overcome the things that have kept us from making any real money online so far.
Most of us are drawn to the potential to make money on the internet, probably because we feel we can make a lot more than we’ve been able to make at our (often lousy) jobs.
This is true.
Here is the problem with that approach to starting an online business,
We need to make more money, first off and more than anything, and we don’t have enough experience at making money online to make it happen as quickly as we’d like to.
Many of you said you had active web pages and hosting accounts but why?
Following in the path of someone else’s success (as in becoming an affiliate) is a fast way to start making money online, probably the fastest way in all honesty.
Like I said earlier I wish I had started out like that instead of creating my own product.
The fact is … we are the people who are willing to stick our necks out there and try things. Keep in mind that we’re all starting with different levels of knowledge, and experience, and notions, and beliefs, and ideas of our own.
Even if we had all started as affiliates for someone else, we may have done it for the wrong reasons (like needing the money) and not for the fact that we love the field it’s in or the problem it seeks to solve.
This is a common flaw that leads to failure for a lot of us.
We have all tried a lot of things and spent a lot of time and money and unfortunately we’ve been mislead to think that making money online was easy.
The fact is it is NOT easy, it’s complicated. A lot of it depends on what you know now.
Also, we may not believe we can do it either. This is where a lot of us have troubles too.
While making money online may not be as easy as it sounded, rest assured … it is doable, because someone is doing it. If it’s being done , then we can do it too.
If it happens that our beliefs are the problem, I hope that first you’ll admit you’ve been thinking “I can’t do it” types of thoughts and then quickly move on to realize that we can all begin to change our beliefs with some right knowledge and correct thinking.
As far as the correct business steps, Let’s talk about them for a minute or two.
Did you listen to the interview with Matthew Glanfield that I gave you when you got onto this list? If you haven’t or if you just skipped through it, you may want to go back and listen to it (again), because there are some insanely simple points to getting this all to work the way we’d like it too.
If you want to get it again just go back to www.whymembershipsitesrock.com and go to the second page scroll down to the bottom to click through to get it.
The most important thing you’ll hear is that … it isn’t about you,
it’s about serving the people that the money comes from.
This is huge and it goes back to practically all the great thinkers of all time.
There are a lot of people who need help solving the kinds of problems you may have experience with or that you’re passionate about.
Back in the 1980’s A military housewife in the North East US came out with a newsletter called “The tightwad gazette”. This very enterprising woman had (I believe) nearly 50,000 subscriber at one dollar a month at the peak of the newsletter.
This was before long before the internet had become what it is today so she actually had to type up, print out, fold, and mail the gazette by hand.
The point is, Amy had created quite a little enterprise by helping people do what she loved to do … Save money on the things that families needed and wanted.
That was my very first exposure to this concept of the membership business model, and thinking back I realize how and why I got so excited about showing others how it works.
It all comes down to this …we need to provide something of value in a field that we like (maybe even love) in order to be able to profit from the internet in general.
Then, … In order to build a long running, realistic and serious business with this amazing and cool business model called “membership sites” we must provide value.
More than that, In order to keep money flowing to us through the concept of a membership site, we need to make sure we’re giving continuing value to the end user.
I personally think that a membership site is the most honest type of business anyone could have online or offline, because it depends on honesty and value and service in order to consistently earn money with it. If you deliver you get paid, if not you don’t.
So how do we get you through the fire and find your spot in all of it.
Before you do anything (I know you’ve probably already done a lot more work than you’ve wanted to, and maybe you haven’t gotten very far) you should think very seriously about what it is that lights your personal fire.
If you do this one very important thing, the rest of the entire process becomes easier.
We have never before in our life, had a time with so many possibilities to live our best lives and make a lot of money by engaging fully in what’s important to us.
What you love, and know (or want to know) is in need of you to move it further.
You, yes you, each and every one of you, have very personal gifts and talents ! I’ll bet you know that, and I hope you’re aware of it.
Pretend for a second that it’s Monday morning and as you wake up you’re excited to start your day, What will you be doing today that has you so excited and passionate?
Take a little time to explore this idea for yourself openly and without any limitations.
Begin to unfold that, and share it with the world, so you can get all that you can ultimately have for yourself, your family, friends, and your community, and the world.
Sorry I didn’t mean to go all cosmic on you, but, we live in an incredible time.
Spend every moment of your precious time in life focusing on what you love, start with your thoughts, hold them fiercely with passion and determination, and your perfect life will unfold right into your reality. Before you know it you’ll “Really Have It Made”.
As far as your internet business development goes,
slow down, eliminate what isn’t working
(which is probably most of it or at least a lot of it ), and
spend some time on figuring out what it is, that you really love to do.
Once you do that, we can move on to finding a profitable market that fits into, or at least relates to your chosen passion and then we can all start to solve problems for profit.
As we pull that off, we can build out our small successes so that they become big ones.
The great thing about starting here is that you’ll begin to enjoy what you’re working on and you’ll be having more fun as you press on through the (sometimes) difficult process of creating your dream business.
The internet is simply the medium for delivery it isn’t the topic or subject.
Doesn’t that sound like a lot more fun than wasting more time or money chasing after the next best internet widget or fad?
Pursue something you actually like, and deliver your specific and “unique to you” knowledge and energy to a world of people who share your interests.
Believe me … This will be a lot better way to go step by step through a process that can quite honestly be a pain in the U know what !
You can make money online I know you can, I’m living proof.
It will be absolutely incredible if you focus on something you really enjoy being a part of, and having a good time while you’re doing it, will almost insure that you stick with it until you get one thing that you’re sincerely passionate about working well.
So stop everything, and start spending some time making a list of the things that you love to do.
Next … we can find out which one of those passions has the best chance of making some money for you and we can focus on that particular topic and become an expert.
So far the only thing you’ve only been guilty of is being hopelessly optimistic.
That’s a heck of a lot better than just giving up.
Thanks for tuning in and listening to the results of the survey, and please hang in there, we will get it all working well for you by keeping it simple.
Bob Proctor says that most people work on their goals based on the things they know they can do, the things they think they can do, but rarely on the things they want to do.
I don’t know you that well just yet, but I am determined to work on the things I WANT to do, in spite of how many people tell me I can‘t, I shouldn’t, or I ought not to do. I want to live MY life and hopefully you do too.
This is the only life we get, so let’s make it our own sooner than later shall we?
See you next time, and until then focus on “What rings your bell”, “What floats your boat”, “What yanks your crank”, “ What is it that keeps you up at night dreaming”.
Find that, and then we can start putting that juice into a format that knocks the socks off any other business model going.
You will soon come to find out the whole story of “Why membership sites rock”.
Take care, Rick Falls
PS If anyone tries to talk you out of your dreams, quietly walk away and ignore them.
